Would I be able to trade a master ball for a Pokemon? Or are they simply not worth anything?

You can only trade Pokemons for Pokemons.

Master balls add an aesthetic factor if attached to a Pokémon whilst trading, but they are not able to be traded for a Pokémon due to it being an item. However, they are very useful when catching a rare, legendary, or shiny Pokémon, so hang onto it.

What do you mean, can't be traded? Just attach the ball to a junk pokemon and trade it for a good one. .-.
