I got the VC Pokéomon Yellow too, I ended up beating the E4 with Blastoise, Venusaur, Pikachu, Butterfree, Charizard, and (cheaply) Articuno. Articuno was a cheap addition to the team, that was kind of cheap to begin with because you can get all three of the starters pretty early on, before or around the third gym I think, and my Butterfree was a Caterpie I'd had since the beginning of the game so I had the entire game to level up and train my team, but I wanted something to take on Lance and I got a Dratini that took too long to train, so I ended up using Aritcuno.
