Hello, This is Z2 Porygon of the Forums
I decided to make a guide after Perish Trap used to be the weakness of my team, and the bane of my VGC experience. I searched up how to beat Perish Trap on Google and got "Use Taunt and Volt Switch and Soundproof etc." But then I found a video on how to beat Perish Trap using an average VGC Team by Alex Ogloza. He used the following strategy.
WHAT DOES A PERISH TRAP TEAM LOOK LIKE?
It is Perish Trap team if 3 or more of the following pokemon are in team preview:
Perish Trap users:
Gengar
Azumarill
Politoed
Lapras
Murkrow
Altaria
Jynx
Wigglytuff
Dewong
Misdreavus
etc. http://www.serebii.net/attackdex-xy/perishsong.shtml
I am certain that the top 5 on the list is the ones you will see but you never know.
Shadow Tag Ability users:
Mega-Gengar
Gothitelle
Wobbuffet (This sounds like a good idea if you are running Perish Trap but it can be double up into for a KO aka you will never see this on Perish Trap)
Fake Out users and Prankster users are on Perish Trap as well.
Ludicolo, Hariyama, and Scrafty are common Fake Out users.
Whimiscott and Liepard carry Encore so one of these might be on a Persih Trap.
How to Perish Trap works?
You probably know how this works since VGC Players use it and fight it, (of course, fighting it is the worse.)
The goal of Perish Trap is to:
1. Use Perish Trap
2. Stall the turns (Usually with Protect)
3. Switch out and repeat 1
HOW TO BEAT PERISH TRAP:
Because this strategy is so basic it is easy to get around Perish Trap
This is me beating a perish trap team :

First, in team preview if you think they are a perish trap team, choose 4 of your team most offensive pokemon and lead with 2 that match up against a good majority of their team. On my replay of the battle I lead with Thundurus-T and Talonflame to threaten Politoed and Ludicolo right off the bat. But both of them together put offensive pressure on my opponent as Thundurus-T hits hard with Thunderbolt and Talonflame with Bravebird.
Secondly, the reason for having 4 offensive pokemon and no support pokemon is so you can OHKO the Perish Trap Team as fast as possible. Never Protect because it wastes a turn of perish song and your opponent might protect next turn or Encore/Disable/Substitute.
Thirdly, attack on Switch Outs and after Protects. This third part is the key part in order to defeat Perish Trap. Double into forced switches such as the last turn of perish your opponent will switch out their pokemon and double into pokemon that have used protect(even though they might get a double or triple protect).
