Hi guys! I'm relatively new here and I wasn't sure if this is the right place to put this thread, but I found an article on EV training and the basics of it, and I think it'd really help some newer players or people who want to EV train quicker/different ways. I know Sinslasher did a thread on this already, but this goes into detail on what are EVs, what items help EV training, and all possible EV horde gains. Effort Values
Effort Values (More commonly known as EV's) are a Hidden Stat (Until Generation six) that modify the stat's of a pokemon's HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and/or Speed.
Every pokemon that has been freshly caught or hatched will have zero EV's in any of it's given stats. Once that pokemon begins to battle and gain experience it will begin to fill out it's EV's (To a maximum).
There is a limit to how many EV's a pokemon can have in a given stat.
A pokemon will not get the full effect of EV training until level 100, however this does not mean it isn't very relevant to lower level pokemon.
Level 50 pokemon (the standard for competitive battling under Nintendo rules) will gain one stat point for every eight EV's invested in a stat, while a level 100 will gain one stat for every four.
Gaining Effort Values
Each pokemon has a set amount of EV's they give when they are defeated in battle, this is called an EV yeild.
For example; a wild Ghasty yeilds one Special Attack EV when it is defeated.
A pokemon gain's EV's if it gains experience from a knockout, regardless of level and it does not have to participate in the battle (EXP Share) to gain EV's.
Pokemon can also gain EV's from three other methods: Vitamins, Wings, and Super Training
Vitamins come in six (Nine in actuality, but only six effect stats) different flavours, each corrisponding to a Pokemon Stat.
HP Up = HP stat
Protein = Attack stat
Iron = Defense stat
Calcium = Special Attack stat
Zinc = Special Defense stat
Carbos = Speed stat
For every one Vitamin you use on your pokemon it will gain ten EV's in the chosen stat, to a maximum of 100, at which point it will stop allowing you to use the vitamin.
Because of this cap, it is wise to use vitamins before you go to EV train off of pokemon knockouts, if you choose to use them.
Wings are similar to vitamins, as there is one wing corrisponding to each stat, however they will only provide one EV per use.
Health Wing = HP stat
Muscle Wing = Attack stat
Resist Wing = Defense stat
Genius Wing = Special Attack stat
Clever Wing = Special Defense stat
Swift Wing = Speed stat
Wings however are usable as long as the stat is not at it's maximum.
Super Training is a new way to EV train introduced in Generation Six, requiring you to play mini games to raise a stat on a pokemon.
The Super Training screen is useful to everyone EV training because it provides you with a graph that roughly shows you what EV's you have on a pokemon.
Effort Value Maximums
Every pokemon has the ability to gain a total of 510 EV's, with a possible 252 EV's in one stat.
The maximum in previous generations was 255. For every 4 EV's in a stat it would raise that stat by one, however 255 is not divisible by four, so the optimal cut off was always 252. We just don't have to worry about going over this anymore.
When Are EV's Applied?
Immediately after gaining them, be it in the middle of a battle, right after using a Vitamin/Wing, or finishing a Super Training Regimen.
Are EV's Modifiable?
Effort Values are permanent for the most part, however you are able to remove some/all of them when using specific items.
Using a Reset Bag will reset all of your current EV's gained to zero, allowing you to re-train the pokemon.
The Juice Shoppe found in Lumiose city allows you to mix together a Perilous Soup (Kee and Maranga Berry) to gain the same effect.
There are also 'Stat Reducing' berries, which will remove 10 EV's from the chosen stat.
Pomeg Berry = HP stat
Kelpsy Berry = Attack stat
Qualot Berry = Defense stat
Hondew Berry = Special Attack stat
Grepa Berry = Special Defense stat
Tamato Berry = Speed stat

There is an infection called Pokerus, which will double the EV's on a pokemon that is afflicted (From a knockout).
There are also many hold items that will change the amount of EV's a pokemon will gain from a knockout, such as;
Power Weight = HP stat
PowerBracer = Attack stat
PowerBelt = Defense stat
PowerLens = Special Attack stat
PowerBand = Special Defense stat
PowerAnklet = Speed stat
All of these items will add four EV's of the chosen stat to a knockout.
The last hold item is the Macho Brace and it functions similarily to Pokerus, as it doubles the EV gain from a knockout.
These items however only apply to the pokemon holding the item, when a Pokemon is knocked out, giving experience.
Are Effort Values Divided Per Knockout?
No. Every pokemon that gains experience from a knockout and is not already at the maxumim for EV's will gain the base EV yeild. (Which can be modified with Pokerus and an item from above.)
(Base EV Yeild[1-3] + Power Item Stat Gain[4]) x 2 for Pokerus = EV gain [10, 12, or 14] total per knockout.

Horde Encounter EV Training
In Generation Six, horde encounters were introduced, which sped up the old EV training ways by a great margin.
The idea is to use the Power Items* with Pokerus** and the easily sweep-able horde encounters to give your pokemon a yeild of 50-60 EV's in a stat for one encounter.
[*Power Items]: Power Weight, Power Bracer, Power Belt, Power Lens, Power Band, and Power Anklet
All of these can be bought post Elite Four in Kiloude City, inside the Battle Maison, from the left side shopkeeper woman.
[**Pokerus]: A rare virus that can be contracted by your pokemon. When a pokemon is infected (Denoted on the information screen of a pokemon by the pink Pokerus stamp found to the right of the pokemon's level, or a small pink face found underneath the pokemons model, on the same screen.), they will gain twice the normal amount of Effort Values from a knock out.
REMINDER: Every knock out that provides experience to a pokemon, will provide the full yeild of Effort Values to that pokemon. Effort Values are not divided between pokemon.
To begin this method, take the pokemon you plan to train and infect it with pokerus*. The pokerus will double the effort value yeild when an opposing pokemon is knocked out. (For example, a pokemon gives 1 Speed EV; pokerus will double it to 2.).
Equip the power item for the stat you wish to train, (Weight = HP, Bracer = Attack, Belt = Defense, Lens = Special Attack, Band = Special Defense, and Anklet = Speed.). This will further your effort value yeild an additional four points. (Base 1 Speed EV + Anklet = 5 Speed EVS. With Pokerus = 10.).
Now using a pokemon with Sweet Scent**, or the item Honey, you hunt for the Horde Encounter in the chosen area.
Once it is found, you kill them off with a multi-hit move like Surf or Earthquake. This will give you 50-60 EV's in the chosen stat. (Base 1 Speed EV + 4 Speed (Anklet) x 2 = 10 Speed EV's) x 5 Pokemon in a horde encounter = 50 Speed EV's.
The pokemon you wish to train does not have to participate in the battle if you have EXP Share on. However, it does need the power item equipped.
[*Infecting Pokerus]: To infect a pokemon with pokerus, you need to have a pokemon in your party that has the contractable virus (it is spreadable if it still has the pink pokerus stamp, not the small pink face.), turn off EXP Share, and complete or flee from pokemon battles until pokerus infects the pokemon you are looking to EV train. After this is done (if defeating pokemon), you can turn EXP Share on again.
[**Sweet Scent]: Many grass type pokemon learn Sweet Scent. For example, Bulbasaur learns it at level 21. However, a dedicated Sweet Scent/Horde Sweeper could be;
