A good way for beginners to start out with competitive battling is building a balanced team. In a balanced team, there's a Wallbreaker, Physical tank/wall, Special tank/wall, Physical sweeper, Special sweeper, and a Filler. Here's the video I watched when I first got into competitive battling - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv8eUygvd_U

Credit to RisingTaide for making such an awesome guide.

Also, here's a couple useful resources for building your team.
Pokemon showdown - https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/
Team Magma.Net - http://www.teammagma.net/teambuilder/
Type Coverage Calculator - http://pokemondb.net/tools/type-coverage
List of Pokemon by Base Stat - http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/L...I-present)
The minute you think of giving up, think of the reason why you held on so long.

You should look up teambuilding episodes on Youtube, Im sure you'll learn a lot from them since you're new

It can be a little daunting getting into the competitive side of Pokémon, but you're not alone! Youtube is definitely a great resource. I learned a lot from watching other competitive battlers build teams and play.

First things first, you're going to want to learn how natures, EVs, and IVs work. It can be a little confusing if you're new to it, but there are great videos on Youtube that you can watch. After you get a good grasp on that, watch team building guides. One of the best tools to use is Pokémon Showdown. It's a program that you can download that let's you put together and test teams out online before you make them in the game to save time.

If you're looking for someone's videos to watch, check out CybertronVGC! He's a great competitive battler and makes easy to understand videos.
