Pokemon of the day?

How exactly does the Pokemon of the day work? I'm mainly asking this because I was surprised by seeing a shiny version of today's Pokemon in the pokeradar section of the website. This is the first time I have seen this, so I was wondering if anybody has an explanation to this, I think its cool!

The odds of finding a shiny are very rare. It's pretty cool whenever you see one

Glad everyone's liking that little feature. I threw it in silently several months ago just for fun and it's awesome to see people catching on to it and making threads about it. =D
