Alolan Marowak may seem to be a horrendous Pokemon at first glance. It's slow speed leaves it vulnerable to several common threats in the meta game and it's reliance on Thick Club can make it seem predictable. However it's unque typing along with the Lightningrod ability grants it Plethora of resistances allowing it counter several top tier threats, such as Tapu Koko, Magnezone, Celesteela, and Tapu Bulu to name a few. Unlike other Pokemon Marowak can afford to invest significantly in it's defense and still hits extremely hard due to Thick Club doubling Marowak attack.

This set is design to maximize Marowak defensive capability while keeping it as an offensive threat. The defense investment allows Marowak to almost always avoid a 2HKO from Garchomp EQ, Weavile Throat chop at -1, and Ray Rizzo Assault Vest Kartana. The Special defense investment lets Marowak avoid an OKHO from non life orb Nihilego power gem, Gengar Shadow ball, & gives Torkoal charcoal boosted Eruption only a 8.2% chance to 2HKO. The speed investment allows you to outspeed Alolan Muk with only 4 speed investment. If Muk is not a concern for your team then the speed can be invested into attack instead.
