Metagross wasn't an uncommon Pokémon in the 2012 VGC circut. It was a strong attacker, could be quite quick and most importantly had no problem absorbing the dragon gem boosted Draco Meteors that dominated the meta. Ray Rizzo's Trick Room set was a bit different. It worked best beside his Cresselia and out sped it by one point, thanks to it's 14 IVs and 0 speed investment. This meant that once Cresselia had set up trick room Metagross could be swaggerd fot that +2 attack boost, heal off confusion with it's Lum Berry and then attack.

Arash decided to opt for Tornadus over it's arguably more popular electric type counterpart, Thunderus. He picked it mainly because of it's Defiant Ability, and in a meta game flooded with intimidators like Landurus, Scrafty and Hitmontop, it made a very significant impact. Due to Tornadus's high speed and attack stats, and it's variety of moves, it could deal big damage to some of the most threatening Pokémon in the meta. And when paired with his Choice Scarfed Mamoswine, counters like Thundurus-I couldn't touch it. (Arash's Tornadus held a Flying Gem which was an item exclusive to Gen 5 games)

When you mention signature Pokémon, Sejun's Pachi is more than likely the first think that comes to mind. No one expected such a small Pokémon to be such a big part of his team. With redirection, speed control and being able to take a big chunk of HP with Super Fang, Pachirisu made for incredible support. Not to mention it's Volt Absorb Ability which let his Talonflame stay in against some threatening Pokémon like Rotom, Zapdos and Raichu.

Wolf Glick is one of the biggest names in VGC, and considering how long he's been part of the sceen it's no wonder he's had a few unusual sets, most notably his Exeggutor from his 2nd place worlds 2012 run. This was a very versatile set with good bulk investment, a high special attack base stat, and good recovery with it's Sitrus Berry/Harvest cycle. But, the most interesting thing about this Exeggutor set is it's potential to nerf special attackers thanks to the special attack drop it receives after using Leaf Storm, which can then be passed to an opponent using Power Swap. Even though he didn't win that year, he still managed to make a fantastic team that differed from the norm. Wolf was also one of the players that pushed teams built around Perish Song, as far back as gen 5. For this reason I'm also including the perish trap Mega Gengar that he used in his 2016 worlds winning team.
