- Flare Blitz / Wild charge

(My personal set in Bold)

Arcanine is such a great flow disrupter!

With this build my intent was to make physical/Bulkier sweepers become a bit easier to manage, and for the unexpected Fairy kills.
Why I chose the EV spread that I chose you ask?
Arcanine is already decently fast at 95 base SPE, so adding onto it just helps him out speed things like a jolly Tyranitar and such.. His physical defensive bulk is what matters here. He isn't the most Tanky Mon out there, Trust me I know. But with an impish nature and the 252 DEF EV's thrown in. He can tank up a lot of surprising hits. Also a smidge in SPD for rare occasions and 100 ATT EV's for dishing out some respectable damage to neutral hits.

With Arcanines new found defensive bulk, he can survive a surprising amount of hits that would otherwise OHKO.
Here are a few Damage Calcs:

Defensively Arcanine is solid:

Note these all take place after intimidate factors in.

Also, I listed more Good Defensive counters that Arcanine has for reference.

Offensively Arcanine is Decent:

Arcanine's attack won't be winning him any awards for Diversity or sheer power. But Add in the Will-O-Wisp damage and those 3 to five turns seem a bit more bearable.

100 Atk Arcanine Flare Blitz vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Gardevoir: 114-135 (79.1 - 93.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

100 Atk Arcanine Flare Blitz vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Sylveon: 114-135 (56.7 - 67.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

100 Atk Arcanine Flare Blitz vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Gardevoir: 114-135 (79.1 - 93.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

100 Atk Arcanine Iron Head vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Bisharp: 18-21 (12.7 - 14.8%) -- possible 7HKO

Super effective hitting Special Attackers are not to be messed with, so Switch out!

252 SpA Life Orb Landorus Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 100 SpD Arcanine: 198-234 (120 - 141.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 100 SpD Arcanine: 174-206 (105.4 - 124.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 100 SpD Arcanine: 189-223 (114.5 - 135.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 0 HP / 100 SpD Arcanine: 117-138 (70.9 - 83.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (hope to not get flinched out)

252 SpA Life Orb Greninja Scald vs. 0 HP / 100 SpD Arcanine: 164-195 (99.3 - 118.1%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

228+ SpA Expert Belt Swampert Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 100 SpD Arcanine: 161-190 (97.5 - 115.1%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

But from personal experience my Arcanine has taken an earthquake (after intimidate factors in) from a Garchomp. Albeit Defensive Gar, with rough skin and rocky helmet. But that's still a 2x effective move + STAB. so it's nothing to scoff at.

The overall plan is: Intimidate into Will-O-Wisp, next turn morning sun if necessary, Iron Head for surprise flinches, flare Blitz for STAB and good damage on neutral hits.

This Arcanine will work great against teams that use bulkier physical sweepers, like Curse Hippowdon & Regular / Mega Aggron. Speedy setup sweepers such as Mega Pinisr, Scizor, Lucario, Talon Flame (Intimidate makes that brave bird look like a Broken wing).  Even breaking a Dragonites Multiscale, which is always a win.
Side note: Iron head is viable on Arcanine for the ever-growing Fairy Fan base (at least in my Meta)
Arcanine already resists them so why not? It's always a peasant surprise!
Safety goggles are the preferred item. Any unnecessary weather damage or powder based moves (Sleep powder, spore, etc.) have no effect and allows for longevity and annoyance.
For a bit of proof to this sets annoyance factor I have a saved video, if you would like to see it in action.
(mind you this is before I had safety goggles so I ran rocky helmet)
Here's the code: 3NZG-WWWW-WW2S-YA97
With a decent prediction Arcanine can Nerf threats that he otherwise couldn't, such as the Feraligator seen in that video.
Morning sun is there to recover after taking a bit of damage, whether it be from a Will-O-Wisped opponent or recoil from flare blitz.

Potential Teammates include, but aren't limited to:

Special defensive bulks for those risky moments:
  • Umbreon
  • Scrafty (assault vest)
  • Milotic
For the late game set up after a will-o-wisp:
  • Mega Swampert (curse, power up punch, avalanche, earthquake / waterfall)
  • Sword dance baton passing Scizor
  • Rhydon (Eviolite)

Threats Include but aren't limited to:

Any fire type. Unfortunately This build doesn't handle them too great. Especially if they are special attackers:
  • Ninetails
  • Mega Charizard Y
  • Heatran
  • Mega Houndoom, fear this mon...

Speedy Mons such as:
  • Greninja, probably the biggest hindrance to this build
  • Gliscor (Jolly nature / earthquake) he will out speed and really hurt this Arcanine!

Special Attackers are scary:
  • Mega Blastoise, just switch out.
  • Greninja once again, he's just as scary
  • Noivern...life orbed Draco meteor...enough said!

Notable Moves to possibly include:

  • Snarl: Because intimidate isn't enough. Arcanine can also lower your special attack.  :D
  • Wild Charge: Bold move for the right moments. Flying types (looking at you Mega Pidgeot) and less defensively inclined water types beware! Morning sun can clear up the recoil. along with leftovers for a unique Arcanine.
  • Outrage: Could be viable if you have a lot of potential dragon threats in your Meta. Paired with the Lum berry for quick confusion recovery!
  • Protect: Paired up with leftovers this can be a good way to get some extra health in to survive a clutch moment or two. Also just for scouting out swaggers, taunts, etc.

Viable Items not included in this set:

  • Leftovers: for that extra bit of longevity
  • Lum berry :for those sneaky swagger Mons
  • Mental Herb : Prevents the holder being taunted -single use. For that Guy/Gal that runs Mega sableye (Ability: Magic bounce / Will-O-Wisp / Taunt / Recover / Sucker Punch)

I hope that you all enjoyed this Set and can maybe find a use for it.
I understand it's a bit more niche, but the set is overall fun to play around with.
Enjoy!  :D

RE: [VGC] Arcanine - Disruptor (Tank) - RebornFX - Oct 4, 2015

I think you probably should do calcs in the future, it shows a lot of errors in this build. Firstly, you have 4 leftover EVs.
Secondly, Iron Head really isn't a good move on Arcanine. Against all relevant fairies (being M-Gardevoir, Sylveon, Azumarill and Togekiss) Flare blitz does more damage (granted it does recoil damage, but that doesn't justify a waste moveslot).

Calcs to back this up:

100 Atk Arcanine Flare Blitz vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Gardevoir: 114-135 (79.1 - 93.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
100 Atk Arcanine Iron Head vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Gardevoir: 102-122 (70.8 - 84.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

100 Atk Arcanine Flare Blitz vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Sylveon: 114-135 (56.7 - 67.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
100 Atk Arcanine Iron Head vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Sylveon: 102-122 (50.7 - 60.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

100 Atk Arcanine Flare Blitz vs. 236 HP / 196+ Def Togekiss: 64-76 (33.6 - 40%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
100 Atk Arcanine Iron Head vs. 236 HP / 196+ Def Togekiss: 56-68 (29.4 - 35.7%) -- 93.6% chance to 4HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery

100 Atk Arcanine Flare Blitz vs. 196 HP / 20 Def Azumarill: 47-56 (23.5 - 28%) -- possible 5HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
100 Atk Arcanine Iron Head vs. 196 HP / 20 Def Azumarill: 42-50 (21 - 25%) -- possible 5HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery

When you take that move away, this build seems like a more physically defensive version of Eckley's disruptor build, but far less specific to the relevant threats in the VGC tier.

Sorry if it sounds a bit harsh, but there's already a much better build write up

No way, not harsh at all. I actually thank you for taking the time out to do that for me.
I will definitely take this in to account on future posts that I make. This is my first time. so any input is relevant and appreciated!

I'm glad I could help.
If you want to do calcs in the future, I would recommend using the nugget bridge calculator.
It's essentially the same as the smogon calculator if you're familiar with that, with Pokemon set to level 50 automatically and with far more pre-made sets.
Also, generally it is better to invest in to HP than to invest in to defence and special defence separately, unless you need to for a specific benchmark.

Thank you very much I will definitely use the calcs in the future. It all seemed a bit too much for me to handle. but I would like to post a proper set that gets approved someday. So thank you very much!
Also, that is true. I will take that into consideration for the next Arcanine I EV train.

Calcs are something you should be using while both making and using a team. It's always nice to know how much damage you are going to be doing. Once you get used to it you'll be able to make calcs very quickly. Just make sure you don't calc things wrong, like remember intimidate automatically puts the opponent at -1 attack if you have intimidate (or in Bisharp's case, +1). And make sure you have the correct form of Aegislash whenever doing calcs for it. Other than that, you can only make a mistake by typing your EVs wrong, it's pretty straightforward.

Edit: Try making builds of Pokemon that haven't already had builds made. There are plenty, I'm working on two moveset write ups as we speak. Also, try to make reference to specific popular Pokemon that the build beats/is threatened by. This is a good list of them (by Pokeventurer):

. Kangashan (Mega)
. Landorus
. Thundurus
. Cresselia
. Amoongus
. Heatran
. Teraakion
. Breloom
. Suicune
. Entei
. Salamence (Mega)
. Gardevoir (Mega mostly, some run surprise scarf/specs)
. Scrafty
. Aegislash
. Rotom-w/h
. Tyranitar
. Azumarill
. Politoed
. Smeargle
. Ludicolo
. Charizard (Mega Y)
. Venusaur (Mega mostly, some run chlorophyll with LO/sash)
. Raichu
. Gengar
. Ferrothorn
. Togekiss
. Hydreigon
. Bisharp
. Garchomp
. Milotic
. Volcarona
. Sylveon
. Arcanine
. Gothitelle
. Conkeldurr
. Metagross (Mega)
. Gastrodon

This is a good list of them (by Pokeventurer):

. Kangashan (Mega)
. Landorus
. Thundurus
. Cresselia
. Amoongus
. Heatran
. Teraakion
. Breloom
. Suicune
. Entei
. Salamence (Mega)
. Gardevoir (Mega mostly, some run surprise scarf/specs)
. Scrafty
. Aegislash
. Rotom-w/h
. Tyranitar
. Azumarill
. Politoed
. Smeargle
. Ludicolo
. Charizard (Mega Y)
. Venusaur (Mega mostly, some run chlorophyll with LO/sash)
. Raichu
. Gengar
. Ferrothorn
. Togekiss
. Hydreigon
. Bisharp
. Garchomp
. Milotic
. Volcarona
. Sylveon
. Arcanine
. Gothitelle
. Conkeldurr
. Metagross (Mega)
. Gastrodon

You seriously are awesome, thank you once again for all the advice and support. I can't express how much I really appreciate all of it.
also I updated the post. I put calcs in. I think I did them correct. if not please let me know and I will fix them!
