[VGC] [VGC 2017] Magnezone - Special Attacker Movesets
#5
Honestly you can make a case for all three of Magnezone's abilities in Magnet Pull, Sturdy, and Analytic so will review them. Early on the season people wanted ways to beat Celesteela and one was actually Magnet Pull Magnezone since it can 2HKO it with Thunderbolt meanwhile threaten the opposing Tapus with its STABs as well. Problem with Magnet Pull now is that most Steel-types now have ways to hit Magnezone before it goes down, or even take it out at some cases. Flamethrower is now more common on Celesteela than ever, Kartana usually runs Sacred Sword, and Metagross run Earthquake with all the ground weak Pokemon running around (cough Arcanine / Tapu Koko).

Sturdy allows Magnezone to withstand a fatal hit like even a Z Earthquake from Garchomp, live with 1 HP, and fire back a Flash Cannon, HP Ice, or even Z-Thunderbolt at its partner. Meanwhile I know in any double format Pokemon can get double targeted or get down down over time, having that assurance for Magnezone to withstand at least one hit is appreciated. You don't even have to run Focus Sash, as Sturdy is a better convenient ability for Magnezone. Yes it can beat other steel-types like Celesteela, but those mons are going to have moves like Earthquake or whatever coverage move to hit Magnezone.

Even though its not discussed much, I feel like Analytic deserves an honorable mention and would be incredibly far useful than both abilities, if it wasn't for the fact Magnezone has to move "last" to get the 1.3x boost. Like given how Trick Room heavy this format has become, its really unfortunate not to mention the introduction of several Pokemon who's speeds are even slower than Magnezone.
