Help with a good team?

I've never really gotten into VGC, I've mostly just stuck to singles play. But this year I've finally decided to give it a try, and I was wondering if anyone with experience could help me make a good team for the meta! From what I've seen, there are a bunch of popular cores out there, but I don't know whether I should use them and then have them get countered, or use something original that doesn't stand up to the cores. Can anyone help suggest a first team for a newbie?
