Help with Soft Resetting

Hi guys, 
I am currently looking to soft reset my Pokémon Sun game to help me with breeding. I know that in order to do it, you press L,R, and Start/Select at the same time. When you do this, though, it does go back to your most recent save, right? I don't want to accidentally delete my entire game...
