I've done quite a bit of DexNav chaining, before and after obtaining the shiny charm.
I suspect that the shiny charm affects chaining the same way it affected chaining in X/Y, in the respect that you reach your maximum shiny encounter rate faster, rather than improving your max chance rate.
Since chains don't end when you find your shiny pokemon, and since you can change the pokemon you are tracking through the DexNav between any encounter without resetting your chain, you can effectively maintain your max chance (1/200?) afterwards and move onto the next shiny in the same area.
I did this yesterday on one of the mirage islands. I started with a 120 chain of Persian, got the shiny, did a 240 chain of Xatu, moved directly into a 30-odd chain of Zebstrika, and followed it up with a 136 Venomoth chain.
