Mamoswine is a great anti-meta Pokemon with the enormous usage of the Genies, with almost every team having one or the other or both. While Mamoswine won't be useful in all situations due to its poor defensive typing leaving it easily checked by fairly common threats like Terrakion and Mega Metagross, it discourages your opponent from bringing genies, as well as Pokemon like Heatran, Salamence, Zapdos and Garchomp.

Mamoswine has a fairly mediocre speed tier, getting outsped by many common threats such as max speed neutral nature base 98 and up such as Hydreigon, Salamence, Garchomp as well as Jolly Landorus-T. To mitigate this, a Choice Scarf is the item of choice. With Max speed Jolly nature with a Choice Scarf, Mamoswine reaches a Base speed of 217, allowing it to outspeed Max speed Adamant Scarf Landorus-T. The EV spread is used to maximise Mamoswine's offensive potential as Mamoswine doesn't have the best bulk (because of this it isn't recommended to switch Mamoswine in to attacks). The Thick Fat ability makes Ice type attacks and Fire type attacks neutral. If on a hail team, Snow Cloak may be more useful. Earthquake allows Mamoswine to deal with Fire and Steel types which can OHKO Mamoswine. Icicle Crash is used to OHKO/2HKO the threats Mamoswine was put on the team to check, being Mega Salamence, Landorus-T, Thundurus, Zapdos and Garchomp. Ice Shard can be used to pick off weakened enemies which outspeed Mamoswine, such as Jolly Scarf Landorus-T and Mega Salamence after a DD. Superpower can also be used to hit Pokemon like Kangaskhan and Ferrothorn. Rock Slide is a nice spread move with a good flinch chance, allowing Mamoswine to hit Zard Y and Talonflame. Alternatively, Stone Edge can be used to avoid being blocked by Wide Guard and guaranteeing the OHKO on Zard Y (though it has a lower accuracy).

Potential Teammates include, but aren't limited to;
- Pokemon which appreciate the removal of the Genies make great partners with Mamoswine. In particular, Charizard Y has brilliant synergy with Mamoswine. Mamoswine can freely spam EQ next Charizard, dealing with Heatran along with Electric and Rock types, as well as being able to spam Icicle Crash to deal with Dragon types which wall Charizard. Once these Pokemon are dealt with, Charizard can freely spam sun boosted Heat waves dealing huge damage. Charizard can also deal with bulky waters such as Rotom-W and Milotic which pose issues for Mamoswine. Defensively, Charizard and Mamoswine have almost perfect defensive synergy, sharing only one weakness in Fire, which is mitigated by the sun.
- Virizion also makes a brilliant partner for Mamoswine, as it deal with Rotom-W which hard walls Mamoswine. It can also beat Kangaskhan and Ferrothorn, meaning Mamoswine can run Ice Shard over Superpower. Virizion also appreciates the removal of Zapdos and Thundurus.
- Due to Mamoswine's poor bulk, he appreciates redirection. Volcarona and Amoonguss make good partners because of this, as Volcarona can deal with Kangaskhan while Amoonguss can provide sleep support.
Threats include but aren't limited to;
- Burns, specifically from Pokemon like Rotom-W and Rotom-H which can wall Mamoswine.
- Gyarados hard walls Mamoswine, while reducing its offensive presence through intimidate.
- Bulky waters such as Milotic and Suicune can eat up a hit and OHKO/2HKO in return.
- Cresselia is another Pokemon which hard walls Mamoswine and can support their team through setting up Trick room or setting up Calm Minds.
Other notable moves
- Iron Head - Can be used to check to fairies if you would rather not lock in to a less than 100% accurate move.
- Icicle Spear - Can be used as an answer to Focus Sash Landorus-T and for a 100% accurate Ice STAB.
- Protect - On non-scarfed sets, Protect can prevent Mamoswine from being KO'd or burned and allows it to scout.
- Knock Off - Can be used to cripple Pokemon which rely on a particular item.
Other Notable Items
- Life Orb - Can be used to increase the damage output of Mamoswine
- Expert Belt - Can be used to get surprise KOs and avoid the recoil damage from Life Orb.
- Focus Sash - Helps to mitigate Mamoswine's fairly poor defences.
