Obviously not every single Pokémon is going to be competitive, but you'd think that AT LEAST 100 would be viable for competitive play.

Pokemon is imbalanced not only because the developers clearly don't care about making most pokes viable for competitive play, but also because of the huge element of RNG. It doesn't take skill to get a 30% chance. Am I the worse player if I make all the right predictions, the leads are in my favor, and I have the upper hand throughout the entire match, but end up taking two rock slide flinches in a row at the end? Am I a bad player because I got full sleep turns?

Meta mons are meta because they're the best at what they do. I personally don't have anything to say about the top teams and wasn't surprised to see them. If I'm at worlds to win, I'm not bringing unique mons just for the sake of being original. I'm going to bring the powerhouses that I know can dominate so I can get that $10k and pay off my student loans.

That being said, I don't even play Pokemon, so my opinion is invalid here.

I mean, I get what you're saying. It makes sense. However, I'm not saying that I want to see people bring unique teams "just for the sake of being original." I'm saying that I want to see people bring unique teams to be original AND be competitive because I don't believe that there are only 6 Pokemon that can be successful in competitive play. I'd just like to see more variety, that's all.
