Arceus Gamestop Code Question

So I have never gotten a code from Gamestop before...what is the purpose of them giving you two codes if you can only redeem one of them? Is one of them for trading purposes or is it for if you have multiple copies of different games?
Probably a dumb question, but like I said, I'm new to the codes feature.
