If I have a sunny day running then have a pokemon with rest use it will it not work?

Leaf Guard will not work with Rest.
It prevents status problems so Rest will not work.

I suppose but at that its a waste because you would then need the sun to go away and hope to outspeed your opponent to ever use it again.
