VGC is Nintendo's official competitive battles format. It is played doubles, but both players only bring 4 out of their 6 Pokemon after looking at their opponent's 6 Pokemon. There are a few other rules, mostly having to do with no duplicates of Pokemon and only 1 item of each name allowed on a team.
