This spooky ghost has been haunting the battlefield since generation one, with its great typing, and its great versatility, Gengar has been feared by many trainers. Lets me show you what the "Shadow Pokemon" can do.

Base Stats:
Non-Mega: 60 Hp / 65 Atk / 60 Def / 130 SpA / 75 SpD / 110 Spe
Mega: 60 Hp / 65 Atk / 80 Def / 170 SpA / 95 SpD / 130 Spe
Mixed Attacker (Mega)
Gengar @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Will-O-Wisp
- Protect
- Taunt
This is the standard Gengar used to shutdown your opponents team, with moves like Will-O-Wisp to half the attack of foes such as Mega Kang, and other hard hitters. Protect can save you from hit that would usually KO Gengar due to his somewhat low defense. Taunt can shut-down foes such as Thundurus, and even Pokemon that rely on set-up. And finally Shadow Ball your form of attack, able to hit most pokemon with atleast neutral. The Ev Spread is the standard "Hit Hard and Fast". Finally your item Focus Sash allows you to survive those OHKO's.
Damage Calculations:
Offensive:
Mixed Attacker (Non-Mega)
Gengar @ Gengarite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Perish Song
- Substitute / Disable
- Protect
- Shadow Ball
This set is the set of PURE EEEEEVVIIILLL.....let us begin. Basically this set takes advantage of Gengars Mega Ability Shadow Tag and the move Perish Song. With Perish Song after three turn any pokemon that was out during the activation of the move will faint, ofcourse you can switch but not when GENGAR IS HOLDING ONTO YOUR SOUL PREVENTING YOUR FROM LEAVING. This set is usually partnered with another Shadow Tag pokemon so when gengar switches out preventing him from dieing from Perish Song, the pokemon coming in will still be able to trap your opponents. This set also has Substitute and Protect to protect your from taking damage. And Shadow Ball for some damage although it wont be alot. Also Disable is a great move that can shut down your opponents.
Damage Calculations:
Offensive:
This set is more about staying alive for as long as possible, therefor the damage your output is not alot.
Defensive:
Potential Teammates include but aren't limited too:
- Rage Powder/Follow Me Pokemons: Pokemon that are able to take the damage that would usually hit gengar
- Quick Guard/Wide Guarders: Protect Gengar from things like Fake out (Scrappy Kang), Prankster pokemon, or moves like heatwave
- Other Shadow Tag Pokemon: Like i said before this is almost essential to have inorder make sure your oppoents go down to Perish Song
- Fake out Pokemon: Ensure moves like Perish Song take effect by flinching tough opponents
Possible Threats include but aren't limited too:
- Hard Hitters: Alot of pokemon can easily KO Gengar so watch out
- Taunters: Prevents Gengar from using moves such as Will-o-Wisp, Perish Song, or Protect
Other Notable Moves:
- Focus Blast- Does a ton of damage to pokemon such as mega kang
- Confuse Ray: Confuses your oppoenent
- Swagger: (They wanted me to put this in here ), kind of like Confuse Ray but boost your opponents attack
- Reflect Type: Become your opponents type, take less damage from certain attacks
- Sludge Bomb: Does a great amount of damage on most fairies
Other Notable Items:
- Life Orb: Allows Gengar to deal more damage while loosing some in the prosses
- Black Sludge: Similar to leftovers but only works for Poison types, if another pokemon not poison type were to steal it they would take damage
I hope this set helped, there are many other sets that will work for your team, if you have any suggestions please submit them below and i may add them to the originial post
