Mega Swampert + Tornadus Core Build Help
#1
Hey everyone. So I saw a Tornadus build on here which got me thinking about a possible team idea.

I feel like Mega Swampert is underutilized in the VGC format. You hardly even see him on Rain Teams where he belongs!

Anyways, the idea is simple enough. Mega Swampert and Tornadus compliment each other well. Tornadus launches off Prankster Rain Dance which activates Mega Swampert's Swift Swim ability while also letting Tornadus deliver powerful 100% accuracy Hurricanes.

Sounds like a pretty easy yet effective combo, right?

Well to be honest with you, I'm not too familiar with either Pokémon when it comes to VGC so I wanted to get some opinions on builds for both Pokémon.

For Swampert, I came up with this spread:

Swampert-Mega @ Swampertite
Ability: Swift Swim
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide/Ice Punch
- Protect

I'm usually not a fan of the 252/252/4 EV spread when it comes to VGC, but I think it works here. However, if there is a better spread you can think of, please let me know.

For Tornadus, my starting point is this:

Tornadus @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 100 Def / 28 SpA / 100 SpD / 28 Spe
Calm Nature
- Hurricane
- Rain Dance
- Tailwind
- Taunt

The EV spreads were taken from another build on here. I just changed the moveset and item. I feel like I should invest in more speed though to outspeed Thundurus, but I don't know. In any case, any help is appreciated!

Played around with calcs. Made this one.

Swampert-Mega @ Swampertite
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 116 HP / 132 Atk / 52 Def / 68 SpD / 140 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
- Rock Slide
- Protect

Milestones:
-Lives max spa choice specs draco meteor from Hydreigon.

-3HKO'd by max spa shadow ball from Aegislash.

-Lives Adamant double edge from mega kang + salamence.

-OHKO's Landorut-T in the rain with waterfall (even when intimidated)

-56% chance to OHKO bulky mega mence with Ice Punch.

-OHKO's defensive heatran in the rain.

-Outspeeds adamant max speed scarfed landorus-t.

-3HKO'd by max spa mega gardevoirs psychic and hyper voice.

I don't have anything that really works for tornadus, but if you're looking for a speed build:

Tornadus (M) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 212 HP / 104 Def / 76 SpD / 116 Spe
Bold Nature
- Hurricane
- Taunt
- Rain Dance
- Tailwind

I went for bold because even with calm you'll still be getting 2hko'd by electric attacks. at least with this you get 3hko'd by a lot of rock slide users.
50 thousand people used to live here...Now it's a ghost town.
