Well, in my opinion, it's closer to a fantasy RPG. It has some Animal Crossing elements in it, such as the graphics and the ability to customize your home, but most of the game is focused on obtaining a "Life" which the game revolves around. There's a main story that you obviously need to follow to progress, and you also have little side quests you can perform for other NPCs around the world.

That's the best I can do to explain it without revealing too much. I'd say to focus more on the RPG elements, like magic, monsters, and alchemy and such as oppose to the Animal Crossing elements since they aren't that huge. Maybe look at some screenshots to see what I mean. Anyway, I think this game is extremely fun and you should definitely get it if you are a fan of fantasy RPGs (or even if you're not)!
