The trick is to go through the entire movepool looking for options rogue then see if they work with the stats, it takes hours for each pokemon and that's before doing calculations etc downside is you still won't know how they truly work in practice until you breed them and start using them. Admittedly i have like 11-13 years of playing pokemon to draw on when i look at a pokemon and see what could work (albeit only 3-6 months competitive and no actual events under my belt).
The example i like to use is my vgc doubles team that involves reunculous, marowak, ampharos, slowking/slowbro/aromatiss, ferrothorn and duoblade. Looks pretty substandard till u realize marowak with thick club is about as strong as mega mawille and has a stab eq
Looking up small details like this helps make not only strong teams but teams with surprise factor which is normally very useful as Justin manages to demonstrate on his streams loads due to his main knowledge being around the kalos vgc pokemon. I'd suspect to say he and most other people are unaware marowak can reach an attack of over 500 at level 100 and can carry either belly drum or swords dance if it wants to take that stat even higher XD
