[TEAM REPORT] Perish Death: A Team's Tale!
#1
Hi guys i am back with another teambuild post, and sorry for my absence for some time. this time i will be putting forward a team of mine built a long time ago but it still works to this day. i posted it here to get some advice on it and now it is up to it's full potential and i thought i was ready to post it as a team report. i finally almost perfected the execution of the trap against the meta. idk why it wasn't up it was completed bout 2 weeks ago though, let's get started with the team:

Teambuilding thought and process:
as we already know that Wolfe Glick is the king of perish trap so my first step was to take his team break it down and then rebuild it up to my playstyle and comfort-ability, i took his regional team tried spotting out weaknesses (there were non :P) and then ended up copying his team couple of times. i decided to build right from the start picking up some notes on his build to take guideline and picked up the following points:

. 2x pokemons with perish song (jigglypuff and gengar) . 2x pokemons with shadow tag (gothitelle and gengar)
. Ways to shut down opposition of heavy attackers. (2x intimidaters)
. Switch in strategies making team much more effective (u-turn and eject button)
. Fake out to deal with taunt on turn one's.
. Weather disruption.
. Protect stall on 100% of the team

These were some of my personal ideas going into the build:

. Atleast one way to handle pokemons outside of perish trap.
. Utilizing the move infestation/ fire spin/ whirlpool to make perish death easy.
. Good overall switch in synergies.
. Using roar somewhere in the team.
. All bulk investments.

Notice: this team funnily resembles Wolfe Glick's and Shadypenguinn's build on Shady's channel alot. here is the link for both to prove that the idea weren't copied and are original and also shows the early sketch of the team that i built: http://pokemonforever.com/Thread-RATE-MY...erish-Trap

without anything else i would be heading into the actual team i build, hope this would be worth going through:

Gothitelle @ Mental Herb
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 HP / 12 Def / 244 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Heal Pulse
- Protect
- Skill Swap

No surprise on a Perish trap team. we always start with out shadow tagger in my case the first one was gothitelle. There is't much to it until you see the no-attack discipline on it. Gothitelle’s EV spread is by far the most popular one on it yet, surely it makes goth survive specs max attack dark pulse from it which is a great benchmark to pull off andis the best in it’s favor. Trick room is extremely essential to the whole team apart from gengar and landorus under some cases. It’s important weither to use heal puse into partners or to swap intimidate and it’s own shadow tag to the partner, even sometimes makes jigglypuff bulkier by aquirring it’s friend guard ability. Trick room on the particular team greatly helps the interrelated strategies of scrafty and jigglypuff, ofcourse is a great speed control form atop of everything. Protect was surely obvious as to go with perish trap theme. In addition to all the moves mental herb keeps it going and also somewhat reduces the excessive phobia of taunts I have on for the team.

Gengar @ Gengarite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 44 Def / 4 SpA / 20 SpD / 188 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Protect
- Perish Song
- Substitute

Mega gengar is the first perish song user and the second shadow tagger. Mega gengar is thought the mega for the team, and the one designed the best for it. With this second slot the tag requirement of the team design was completed. This gengar and its particular set is quite similar to Wolfe Glick’s team, especially the EV spread was copied from his as it was the best one yet ever built. It would be different from the side that only I am running substitute over disable. Disable was first tried but it got a lot gimmicky and irritating also wasn’t suiting my style so I tried substitute instead. Since I particularly not run redirection support, substitute helps me survive weaker double targets or puts me in a much better position from turn one. Even thugh only with 4 sp.atk investments I once saw it 2HKO’ing probably a 4 HP salamence.

Scrafty @ Eject Button
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 88 Def / 164 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Roar
- Fake Out
- Drain Punch
- Protect

Scrafty. Is. My. Favorite. Pokemon. To. Play. With. In. this. Particular. Team. *Wolfe Glick references*

I knew that scarfty was a great member of the team, acquiring bulk, fake out and intimidate all in one package. My first idea was to put on eject button on it to make more turns of intimidates and fake outs. I was also trying t compress the roles of ammonguss and arcanine within this one pokemon. Eject button also allows me to mess with my opponent’s brain and do additional things like taking ghost and dark moves for the duo mentioned above, as well as any other double target hit onto my perish song or tag mons. It’s move set changed a lot like hell. At first ofcourse it was ‘his’ moveset but then I changed knock off to snarl to stop any milotics that I activate and other special variants in general, but considering it’s slow nature and eject button snarl was later dropped during testing. I putted n roar as the last move because of the major threat of aegislash and other ghost type (surprise it also works on protection). Roar also helps to wipe out any taunt users as they don’t expect to taunt into scrafty ever, just because of protect.

Jigglypuff @ Eviolite
Ability: Friend Guard
EVs: 60 HP / 244 Def / 204 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Perish Song
- Wish
- Rain Dance
- Protect

Here is the beast everyone wanted to hear about ! *All Hail Lord Jigglypuff* no kidding either Jigglypuff is one of the best obscure options I have ever choose for a team of mine. Jigglypuff came into mind while I was searching for perish song users to fill up the requirement of the team, while I stubbled upon this balloon's evolved form. Wigglytuff. Wigglytuff had decent HP to survive most attacks but had terrible of an defensive stat. it came with the reliable/trusty frisk ability always good to have. Then I decided to try out jigglypuff with eviolite as a dumb test and just found out it got the best ability, the one known as Friend guard, not many get this as a counterpart to clef it luckily got one. Eviolite jigglypuff with already great HP and all bulk investments survived many and most attacks.  It had an amazing typing too to further take ghost/dark for got and genga foremost no or immune (zero) damage. It’s moveset was randomly tossed as I gave it the job to just not faint. Behind TR it ca consequently use wish to heal back up further it’s rain dance provides the world’s best weather disruption and shuts down any fire types threatening me.

Landorus-Therian @ Assault Vest
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 156 HP / 148 Atk / 4 Def / 108 SpD / 92 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- U-turn

Landorus; hmmmm this would literally be my first time using this pokemon in VGC and idk why? I hated it’s overrated repo soo much that I always pack a check to it in every one of my team builds and it somehow also becomes a threat t the whole of it. I was not the King of perish trap and I knew that I needed something to fight out the trap especially in the unfortunate 2-on-2 situations left walled and sometimes to bring the team back in momentum. Landorus was the perfect fit in the team as it provided an extra intimidate and the u-turn it possess also made the trap more and more flexible. At first as a choice it was a scarfed 252/252/4 variant but then with practice for the following reasons I putted assault vet on it: my weather disruption was rain which baited it to OHKO me any time with ice beams and scalds. U-turning before the trap sets wasn’t a good move to make as it lingered the effect on the mon that switched in. Assault vest allowed be to conquer both these points very effectively. This slower landorus-t outspeeds standard zard-y (after trick room and OHKO’es back with rock slides.
Damage calcs:
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Bisharp Sucker Punch vs. 156 HP / 4 Def Landorus-T: 142-169 (83 - 98.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Ludicolo Ice Beam vs. 156 HP / 108 SpD Assault Vest Landorus-T: 128-152 (74.8 - 88.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Dewgong @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Def / 180 SpD
Calm Nature
- Perish Song
- Protect
- Fake Out
- Ice Beam

This slot shamelessly was Wolfe’s amoonguss again. I choose something different say what was dewgong for the following reasons it gave me over amoongus: Baiting rain hails ice beams; not good for amoonguss. The threat of lando-t to the team should be checked right off. Some extra flexibility/complimenting to the strategy. After all this by re-checking perish song user list I found dewgong ha can deal with all of these problems fairly well, it also had a much better switch in synergy with landorus as compared to amoongus. It was helpful in stalling out rain modes perfectly well man times before the counter falls to 0. It further complimented the perish trap mode by providing me with perish trap and more fake out pressure.

Derived Team:

I changed this team to another perish trap mode on with the following changes we that I made in it:
. Jigglypuff"s rain dance for sunny day.
. Heatran replaced landorus with much the same of a shuca berry survivor set.

Heatran on the contrary of replacing landorus-t heatran takes better and better advantage of the replaced sunny day for rain dance. Heatran further more compliments the trap by using the move fire spin perfect for the strategy. It deals heaps of damage with flamethrower too in sun and is able to stall out sun-mode well too.

Conclusion:
This post comes to an end here. I must say this was quite one of my best builds and I really liked playing it. The overall switch in synergy and the trap seemed to work perfectly though I didn’t ran specific calcs for the team as when running all bulk other than a few members. At last I would be thanking Wolfe Glick awesome work and performance with his signature style that motivated me to make such a team, hoped as always you liked reading through it. Bye for now!
