@Kris sure. I dont see the harm. though when thinking of teams we should strive for 8 or more so the challenger doesnt completely know what we have. (or am I being stupid again)

Members of the League can have 8 Pokemon, battle with 6, giving them 2 to switch around, excluding the Ace Pokemon which must always be used. I think that's fair and fun

I can be a Flying type user, but I prefer it if all can use Megas. It's a sign of strength and bonding to be able to use mega evolution, fitting for trainers with titles. The challengers can be free to use a Mega if they want, or refrain from it if they want, much like the teambuilding-freedom present in the recent games.

Also, I suggest that trainers specializing in a type can use Pokémon of other types that are thematically similar to their type (much like how Lance is a Dragon user that has Flying types like Aerodactyl, Gyarados and Charizard that look Dragon-esque) So in my case, I can use Pokémon with wings that have been shown flying in the anime for example, but arent Flying types, like Beedrill, Flygon, Venomoth and Pinsir after Mega Evolving. That would make the type-specialist teams more dynamic IMO. Although this would maybe make some types really strong because they are close thematically to other types (like Water and Ice or Dark and Ghost), while som types are more stand-alones like, I don't know, Electric maybe.

Also, if Justin is gonna be the Champion, it would be like if Steven Stone left the League and went to his cave in Meteor Falls without appointing Wallace as a substitute in Emerald. Challengers after beating the Elite Four would be like, what now? xD

Oh right, moo didn't appoint himself Water-specialist right? So if we go after "first come, first served", Water is still open. But imma be nice and say he can have it if he wants it, but if he doesn't want it, I call dibs over my Flying type.

@PerchPond
I knew that @moo311 would want water so I went ahead and put him up for it. Regarding the mega-stones your Idea was one that I had thrown around in my head and was planning on changing.  As far as the team diversity Id say its okay, but flying is quite the free type so dont do anything crazy (air balloon doesnt make a flying pokemon). For now Justin is the "named" champion but personally I think that the first person to beat the elite four should be. IDK though.

Also, if the challenger decides the rules, does that mean we can shift between Singles, Doubles, Triples, Rotation etc? Cause that would really mess with teeambuilding, eg. some mons are good in Doubles, some in Singles, some mons synergize well in Doubles but not in Singles etc and we type specialists would only have 8 mons to shift between.

EDIT: does your reference to the VGC 2018 ruleset imply that that is the format we will be using?
