[RATE MY TEAM] Pretty terrible vgc 2017 team
#1
This is a team I made for the vgc 2017 format. I am really new to competetive so please be brutally honest!

Gyarados @ Waterium Z
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Protect
- Dragon Dance
- Ice Fang

This is what I started the team with. I knew gyarados was 4x weak to electric attacks, so I added alolan marowak with lightning rod to counter that weakness and to give me time to set up dragon dance. I added ice fang to deal with garchomp and the waterium z to get ohkos on most pokemon.

Marowak-Alola @ Thick Club
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Brave Nature
- Shadow Bone
- Flare Blitz
- Protect
- Bonemerang

This was added to check a few of gyaradoses weaknesses and to fill the bulky sweeper slot on my team. Standard marowak.

Garchomp @ Focus Sash
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Protect
- Rock Slide

I added this pokemon because I knew marowak had a lot of checks against it, so I could use this and spam earthquake instead of sending out marowak.

Tapu Koko @ Life Orb
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dazzling Gleam
- Protect
- Thunderbolt
- Discharge

I added this for an alternative pair for marowak and garchomp.

Arcanine @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Protect
- Snarl
- Will-O-Wisp
- Flamethrower

Needed a bulky cripple pokemon so I added this.

Kartana @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Smart Strike
- Sacred Sword
- Protect

My favorite filler.

Genereally this team has way too many checks and counters and Im not sure how to fix that. Rate my first team please?

Being brutally honest, your team is top-notch for this format. Arcanine really does nothing for your team and that slot would be better used for something along the lines of Porygon2 or Oranguru. I'm not saying that you should go for a Trick Room mode but this team needs speed control and Thunder Wave is your best option right now seeing as how everything immune to the status is taken out Garchomp and Marowak-A. Alternatively Tailwind can be considered with a setter like Oricorio, Murkrow or even Whimsicott. Nuzzle is available but it would give your team more weaknesses to Ground though Alolan Raichu synergizes well with Tapu Koko due to Surge Surfer and provides Fake Out support as well as Psychic STAB and Grass Knot for dealing with Gastrodon

Seriously, its a good team so change that title

The standard early meta teams looked exactly like this, but they run Celesteela instead of Kartana because it gives a safer switch thanks to its bulk, another Ground immunity you really need and you can run a Special set since you already have 4 physical attackers.

Edit: didnt notice you have both A-Marowak and Arcanine LOL as Marcus said you already have an Intimidate user so i would try something else instead of Arcanine such as Porygon2
