[RATE MY TEAM] Summer VGC '15 Team
#1
What's up everybody!!

Last time I posted a RMT, it was on a Medicham team (no wait, the one before the last one, YEAH!). I still feel that the last Medicham team was strong. I say 'was strong' because the meta has evolved again since the team was made and now I have to make adjustments (or a new team, that works too :v)

TEAM PREVIEW

THE PROCESS

So let's get it out there. Medicham is and probably will always be my favourite Mega Evolution. Why? Medicham has been my favourite fighting type since gen 3 and the Mega Evolution really powered it up into more of a threat. The problem with Medicham is that it lies in that awkward base 100 speed tier. Its speed really hinders how much it can take out seeing as how if it was able to outspeed say Terrakion, it would OHKO it with Drain Punch or Zen Headbutt. I realized at this point that I needed a reliable form of speed control. I chose Gengar. Gengar is able to take on the one thing that Medicham cannot touch, Aegislash. Not only that but it is reliable in disabling mons who want to set up Trick Room, providing speed control via Icy Wind and can keep up the offensive pace of the team. Both these mons are frail and a bulky Water type or Pokemon that brings status such as Will-o-Wisp or Thunder Wave easily shuts down both of these mons. After a lot of testing and swapping out team members (#B A T T L E F A C T O R Y B O Y S), I decided on Porygon. It has a lot of bulk with its Eviolite, decent special attack along with its ability, Analytic and access to recovery. The core was complete at this point. It is then I decided that I should try to get in a second offensive mode. Rain hindered my core too much, Sun - can't run it without Zard Y now can we, Perish Song - HELL NO!, Sand - Yes. I picked out Sand as my second offensive mode solely because my team has weaknesses to Flying and Ghost. Tyranitar easily breaks through mons like Talonflame, Aegislash, opposing Gengar and Charizard Y. Of course, this sand core needed additional members. I didn't fancy the idea of running two physical attackers in the same mode solely because Intimidate would make it easy to manage, so Excadrill didn't make the cut. To be honest, I didn't even look at Excadrill, I just picked out Landorus-I. Most people run Therian because it has Intimidate, I honestly don't fancy the Therian form in VGC simply because it is forced to run a choice scarf to get the outspeed, it lures Bisharp/Milotic leads and it was generally too easy to play around in my opinion. Lastly, Ferrothorn is to deal with the Water types as well as Fairy types.

THE TEAM

Maylenne (Medicham) @ Medichamite
Ability: Telepathy -> Pure Power
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Drain Punch
- Zen Headbutt
- Ice Punch
- Protect

So funny story. The original core I had was Medicham/Gengar/Krookodile. I had Telepathy here along with Helping Hand to support Krook as it EQd everything. Yeah, wasn't the best idea seeing as how Krook is so weak. Easy 252/252 spread. No calcs needed here. I am considering running Low Kick over Drain Punch and Psycho Cut over Zen Headbutt.

Offensive Calculations

252 Atk Pure Power Mega Medicham Drain Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Kangaskhan: 216-254 (119.3 - 140.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
-1 252 Atk Pure Power Mega Medicham Drain Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Kangaskhan: 144-170 (79.5 - 93.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
-1 252 Atk Pure Power Mega Medicham Low Kick (100 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Kangaskhan: 192-228 (106 - 125.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Pure Power Mega Medicham Drain Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Terrakion: 236-278 (141.3 - 166.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
-1 252 Atk Pure Power Mega Medicham Ice Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Salamence: 156-184 (91.2 - 107.6%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Pure Power Mega Medicham Zen Headbutt vs. 188 HP / 164 Def Amoonguss: 248-294 (116.4 - 138%) -- guaranteed OHKO

- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Icy Wind
- Taunt

Standard VGC Gengar. Basic 252/252 EV spread here. Even though I have Sand, I run Focus Sash because I don't necessarily HAVE to bring Sand so I'm really not shooting myself in the foot with this one.

Level: 50
EVs: 244 HP / 64 Def / 84 SpA / 116 SpD

Level: 50
EVs: 36 HP / 64 Def / 156 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Rock Slide

Landorus-I is really fun to use in VGC. I've already explained why I have it here but whatever.

156 SpA Life Orb Landorus Hidden Power Ice vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 182-218 (110.3 - 132.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

The only relevant damage calc to be honest. Just to show dominance kappaHD

252 SpA Aerilate Mega Salamence Hyper Voice vs. 204 HP / 196 SpD Ferrothorn: 52-63 (29.7 - 36%) -- 32.5% chance to 3HKO

CONCLUSION

Aside from Medicham and Porygon2, this team is pretty much what the meta consists of. The team has proven to be quite successful and even won me a tournament on Pokemon Showdown. Mega Medicham is certainly a fun Mega Evolution to use and with the right support, it can even demolish the top 4 megas in the game.
