Start By Choosing A Mega Pokemon!

No. There are so many teams that can win that do not require a Mega Pokemon. A Mega Pokemon is not a be all end all. Instead build your team around countering the current meta as well as include a new strat that hasn't been used in a long time. For example, Pachirisu. No one had used it in a long time but when Se Jun Park used it, it soared into the meta. A good team counters the current meta while predicting the next meta.

Correction the best teams are the next meta since they will be so good they change the needed counters :P

Winning a Pokemon battle is not so much about being a step ahead of your opponent but rather being 2 steps behind them

I don't mean to be a smart-aleck, but if you look at sejun's team report (http://nuggetbridge.com/reports/follow-2...am-report/) he mentions that his team started with Mega Gyarados and all the other pokemon support it. You're right in that not all teams need a mega, but megas are by far the best pokemon to use and one without a mega probably won't do that well.

Also @tygaa2, you might want to change 'Team Weakness Shart' to 'Team Weakness Chart' in the OP Keepo

This is why I love the VGC format so much because you can basically build custom teams that fulfill niche roles while still having fun. Plus you have that sense of accomplishment if your team manages to win out the competition.

The first sentence under "Start by Choosing a Mega Pokemon" states
"If this is your FIRST time building a VGC team I can not emphasize enough on how important this is."
You're right about the perks of making an anti meta team, but this is for people just starting out
That amazing anti meta Pokemon team wasn't Sejun's first team, he was a 3 time National Champ.
If its your first time swimming you don't jump in the deep end, same concept here

**no rudeness intended Smile

Thanks for pointing that out Peppermint I'm sure there are many other type-o's as well. Ill change it

For someone who just got out of the beginner gates of VGC this is extremely useful and ill think about adding a mega looking at the speed groupings
