[VGC] Pokemon VGC 2015 Metagame Megathread

I don't know about anyone else, but I generally see a lot of the same pokemon. Which of course include a Mega-Kanga, Garchomp, Talonflame, Rotom, etc. But I get a lot more Sylveons lately, which seem to wreck my day up occasionally :P

Do you guys think VGC 2015 has stabilized, or do you still think there is some hidden pokemon that once revealed will change the meta game we know today, it's been a month or two since the rule were released and it seems like the popular 20 have been establised.

Curious thing: Quick Guard being used more then Double Kick on Battle Spot. Terrakion is a great answer to M-Kang and M-CharY, that are the two most used megas. Rock and Fighting stabs are really impressive nowadays too. It's no surprise to see him in Top#12 despite the fact that Cybertron is showing us its potential.

Cybertron has actually started using Suicune after losing to MAX's Suicune, an excellent italian player. Suicune is one of my favorite pokemons, or i should say it WAS one of my favorite pokemons since its usage is rising so much i can't stand it anymore.

That definately reminds me of the time in Smogon where CTC (an extremely popular player/team builder) made a sand team archetype which then everyone started using since today. How I see it we definately have to keep a watchful eye on these top players like Cybertron who's consistently shown he's able to be "anti-meta" until it becomes deemed popular by the competitive VGC players. This doesn't necessarily mean you have to uses any time soon. As long as you're keeping up with the metagame and battle consistently to where you yourself are witnessing these small meta changes then that should give any player a huge advantage.

The reason why I believe Suicune became so popular is likely due to its these fantastic characteristics in sum: speed control, overall defensive bulk, snarl support, and synergy it provides with many top Mega Pokemon. Speed control has become even more desirable in this format considering majority of the Mega Evoluations like Mega Kang, Charzard Y, Venusaur, Gardevoir, or etc. By using tailwind or any other speed control ensures that these Megas can now focus on other statistics like attack/special attack and overall bulk instead using a ton of speed evs. Admitably, the addition of these Mega Evoluation came a power creep, and as a result pokemon like Suicune have seen seeing more usage lately just to tank these hits while still play a vital role in team with speed control and disrupter lately with snarl. With snarl support, Suicune is able to not only lower the special attacks on of both pokemon on the field but add artificial bulk to your own team. What I meant by disruption is additional snarl attackers, the opposing team will eventually be forced switch out their special attacks and ruins any momentum they had going. Lastly, Suicine is able to synergize well with teams that can take care of its type weakness and lack of offesnsive presence like Mega Kangaskhan, Mega Metagross, Bisharp, Heatran, Rotom-W, Charizard Y, and others. Suicune has definately proven to be one of the main "staple pokemon" in VGC no doubt in my mind with all the support characteristics it offers for most team.

yeah that would be an awesome idea it would give people a more view of their teams and how they work, we could give them advice to their plays so next time they can make better plays, win or lose they can still learn form their battle Smile

I'm down for this, mainly because I haven't battle for a long time so It'd be nice to see some battles with some explanations on the plays which I can maybe learn a thing or two from :D

Whatever you want to do. Showdown is easier because I don't have to load up my DS to view it Kappa But like you said, showdown is where a lot of people test teams, so a mix of Battle codes and Showdown will work, but it's entirely up to you :D

Thoughts about St. Louis games? I've noticed a couple of interesting things: there were a lot of Mega Metagross, and pretty much every single one was running Substitute to set up against incoming Sucker Punches, sacrificing its third attack slot and being locked into Iron Head + Zen Headbutt. Landorus-T and Thundurus are omnipresent, but a lot of teams running them means there is some sort of balancing. Jellicent and Conkeldurr have been two of the most consistent pokemons in the tournament, while Hydregon has been one of the worst: surviving a Choice Specs Hydregon Draco Meteor has become a "standard base" in EV training by now.
