[ORAS] ** NOTICE: Rate My Team - PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING **

Star
Hey guys, I just want to get the word out about a common issue that has been permeating in the Competitive Discussion section and that is the posts under the "Rate My Team" prefix.

As a member of the forums, I try my best to give feedback on people's teams as it relates to how it would perform on paper. It has come to my attention that most of these posts generally just state the six Pokemon and nothing further. Now here is the thing, it is ineffective to just post the six team members without meeting the following criteria.

You need to state and explain if necessary:
  • Why this Pokemon was the Pokemon of your choice.
  • What does it do to contribute to your game plan.
  • The reason behind the EV spread used
  • Offensive and Defensive calculations (if necessary to further explain the previous point)

Also, with your team write-ups, remember that how a team works on paper and how it works in a VGC situation are two different things. What does this mean you ask? You need to post battle videos of your initial practice with your team, either from Pokemon Showdown, Pokemon Online or 3DS VS Recorder codes, and also videos demonstrating the improvements made to the team if there were any.

And yes, you also should state your win to loss ratio and the percentage usage of each Pokemon if you kept track of it

Lastly, and this is completely optional, it would really help if you highlighted which Pokemon you want to not change and your preferred playstyle (whether it be defensive, hyper offensive, troll and status or a combination of the three). What this does is allows the rater to make suggestions that do not rule out a Pokemon you want and the end result being a team which you cannot handle.

I know this sounds like a bit too much to ask but bear with me, it is all for the best of both parties.

QUICK EDIT GUYS!

The "Rate my Team" prefix is for posts that contain close to complete teams. If you need assistance in team building, please use the "Request" prefix!

Great post Marcus. As an active member of the Competitive Discussion section like you and many other members, i agree that we also need more collaboration or something more concrete to start with. Many times we had to create a team from nothing but 2 o 3 preferences, which is not helpful as it seems, since the one who needs help can't learn much of teambuilding process: a pre-made team also needs more time to be mastered, as the dynamics/tactics and the play style of the team have another owner, another mind behind it.

So I see people have been ignoring the thread. In that case should we consider a penalty for breaking the code? Something like locking the thread from getting future comments seem to be in order

I am building a team around Bisharp.

Bisharp @Chople Berry
Adamant Nature
Defiant
252 Atk/ 180 SpD/ 76 Hp
Sucker Punch, Iron Head, Knock Off, Protect

Bisharp is a reliable Pokemon, and is most commonly used as an Intimidate counter. With this set, a Timid, 252 SpA Mega Gardevoir's Hyper Voice is a guaranteed 2-hit KO, even when hitting only Bisharp. It also has a 56.2% chance of surviving an Adamant, 252 Atk Mega Kangaskhan's Drain Punch.

Charizard @Charizardite Y
Mild Nature
Blaze- Drought
252 Hp/ 52 Atk/ 52 SpA/ 152 SpD
Heat Wave, Solar Beam, Protect, Rock Slide

Charizard Y resists (or is immune to) Ground, Fighting, and Fire, all of which Bisharp is weak to. Bisharp also resists Rock, Charizard's main weakness. With this EV spread, Milotic's Max SpA Scald is a guaranteed 2-hit KO, as well as Mega Metagross's Max Atk Zen Headbutt, and Zapdos's Max SpA Thunderbolt.

Venusaur @Black Sludge
Modest Nature
Chlorophyll
180 Hp/ 252 SpA/ 76 Spe
Solar Beam, Protect, Sludge Bomb, Sleep Powder

I chose Venusaur as the next Pokemon because it resists Fighting, Water, and Electric, and (in my experience) goes well with Mega Charizard Y, mostly because of Drought. Its EVs in Spe + Chlorophyll let it outspeed all non-boosted Pokemon. When not attacking, it can put everything to sleep with Sleep Powder.

Mamoswine @Assault Vest
Adamant Nature
Thick Fat
252 Hp/ 252 Atk/ 4 Def
Ice Shard, Rock Slide, Icicle Crash, Earthquake

Mamoswine helps by countering many threats to this team, like Landorus and Heatran. Also it is the only Pokemon on the team without Protect, so it can usually get off Earthquakes safely. It can take many special hits thanks to Assault Vest, but I'm thinking about switching to Choice Scarf to outspeed most things.

Salamence @Salamencite
Adamant Nature
Intimidate- Aerilate
252 Atk/ 4 Def/ 252 Spe
Earthquake, Dragon Dance, Double-Edge, Protect

Salamence resists 3 of the team's main weaknesses so far: Fighting, Fire, and Water. It also Intimidates strong physical attackers, and one hit KOs most fighting types with Double-Edge. It can take most physical hits as well with its surprisingly high defense stat.

Please leave suggestions on what the last Pokemon should be, and any recommendations for these Pokemon.
